Found your site via Blackfive. Your comment(Oct 29 Post on the Dover story) there touched me.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of your son.

I think many people don't know what to say or how to act when faced with a devastating heart wrenching loss, and the insurmountable pain that comes with it. I'm so sorry that you had to deal with such insensitivities - I think much of it does come from ignorance.

my best friend is a war widow, being close to the situation, I have heard some of the most ignorant comments. She has had experiences much like you have.

It's apples and oranges. I admire you speaking out and teaching us what is okay and what is not okay.

I also thank you for sharing your son with those of us who never had the opportunity to know him. I consider that an honor!

I know about the young friend you're talking about, and that really is insensitive of that person to try to compare a goldfish to losing someone. But people really don't know what to say sometimes when someone dies. I know I never do, but I do try to listen to people and let them know they're in my thoughts.

I'm sorry about your son. I didn't know about him until reading this, but I know it's never easy to lose someone. It's definitely okay to say it sucks, because it's the honest truth.
